Guwahati 6th November 2014: The Cotton College Unit of All Assam Guwahati Students’ Union today organized its maiden freshmen social Ramailo Vetghat with a daylong program at the New Arts Administrative Building, Conference Hall in Cotton College. Around 200 Gorkha Students of Cotton College gathered to celebrate being Cottonian.
Nanda Kirati Dewan, Senior Ledaer of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Shri. Ganga Powdel, Member and Co-ordinator of Gorkha Development Council (GDC), Government of Assam respectively addressed the students as chief guest and guest of honour while Dr. Narayn Chhetri and Dr. Mina Kumari Devi both senior lecturers of Cotton College addressed the youths as Special Guest. Cotton College Students Union Genneral Secretary Dip Jyoti Das and Vice President Abhijit Moran graced the occasion as Special Invitees.
Ravi Sonar president of Cotton College Gorkha Students’ Unit in his welcome address elaborately spoke on the story behind existence of AAGSU unit in Cotton College and acknowledge support of Guwahati City AAGSU specially its general secretary Resham Sharma and senior leader Nanda Kirati Dewan. The program began with hindu mythological hymes followed by welcome chorous followed by address by the guests.
Nanda Kirati Dewan AAGSU’s former publicity secretary , senior leader and executive member in his address as the Chief Guest congratulated the Gorkha Students’ of Cotton College for scripting a history. Dewan said,’A script is written today in golden letters in the history of Cotton College as Cotton College Gorkha Students’ Union comes into existence with its maiden Romailo Bhetghat and frshmen Social. It’s a moment of joy for me and our Guwahati City AAGSU team. I congratulate this generation of Gorkha students who broke the jinx of 113 years in Cotton College and formally formed Cottonian Gorkha Unit affliated to AAGSU Guwahati City.
After the inaugural session cultural troupes of various semsters and department performed and fresher’s were introduced to the seniors. Karan Chhetry, Sanjiv Dahal, Rajesh Rimal Upadhaya, Tinku Powdel office bearers of Guwahati City Gorkha Students’ Union graced the occasion as special guests and Dilip Gajirel addressed the cottonian as special guest. The Cottonian Gorkha Unit was administered oath of office and secrecy for one year term today and unit being formally approved for affiliation by AAGSU. Asst. General Secretary Meenakshi Khanal and Manoj Chhetry anchored the program and General Secretary Sagar Chhetry delivered vote of thanks. GDC has committed to support financially to Cottonian Gorkha Unit to publish its mouthpiece which will be released later at Guwahati City Committee AAGSU’s annual conference early next year.
