Mamta Banerjee threatens to conduct CAG Audit of GTA funds as GJM sits on Dharna for Gorkhaland in Jantar Mantar Delhi. Since then, the CAG Audit of GTA Funds has been taken seriously by the people in the social medias. However, similar threat was given by the State government on December 2014 after the Lok Sabha election which never took place.
TheDC and Darjeeling Times went a step forward and conducted an online poll where 89% - Overwhelming Majority Support CAG Audit of GTA Funds.
BGP (Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh) President and opposition leader Dr. Rev Enos Das Pradhan made a very important point, when he questioned the motives of the state government, he writes, “In Chaper V, Clause 55 and under sub-section 9 it is mandatory that the GTA account shall be audited by the CAG. The question here arises as to why the State Government has not conducted the CAG audit of GTA accounts for 2012-13 and 2013-14 as yet. Who is responsible for this delay?”
People want the CAG Audit done, but they do not want it to be used by Mamata as a political tool to browbeat the opposition into silence. Rather people in Darjeeling are demanding CAG audit of GTA funds to ensure transparency, accountability and proper utilization of public funds.
