Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) have started their nine day Dharna from March 9 to 17 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for Separate Gorkhaland from today. Dharna was supposed to take place in the month of December in 2014 but GJM had canceled it due to the request from Union home minister Rajnath Singh.
All GTA members , three MLAs , Chairman / Vice Chairman and Councillors for four Municipalities, Representatives of four GJM Sub-divisions , GJM Student Union, All Assam Gorkha Student Union (AAGSU), All Manipur Gorkha Student's Union (AMGSU), GJM Delhi and Haryana Units were present in the Dharna at .
The Dharna will continue till 19th March and I would join them soon.
GJM chief has appealed to the entire Gorkha Community living in and around Delhi to take part in this Dharna for Gorkhaland.
Binay Tamang had earlier stated “Our party president will also participate in the dharna. During the dharna period, Gurung will also meet the Prime Minister and other central leaders including those from the Opposition parties with the one-point agenda of a separate Gorkhaland state,”
GJM had supported BJP candidate Surendra Singh Ahluwalia in the 2013 election who had won by a record margin in the constituency and in return GJM wanted BJP's assurance to pursue the statehood demand which was actually mentioned in the manifesto as well.
