‘Will personally go to Delhi with the appeal’ - Chief Minister Pawan Chamling
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Saturday said he will personally take up with the Union government the demand of Bharat Ratna for Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the first man to climb Mount Everest along with Sir Edmund Hillary.
“I will go to Delhi and personally appeal the Centre to honor Tenzing Norgay with Bharat Ratna. Tenzing Norgay’s contribution is immense and his achievement should be recognized”, said the Chief Minister while inaugurating the Dentam Rhododendron Festival 2015 at Gumpa Dara, Uttarey in West Sikkim.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Tenzing Hillary Park, a tourism complex of the Sikkim government at Gumpa Dara, Uttary. The function was also witnessed by the Everester’s son, Jamling Tenzing Norgay.
The Chief Minister thanked Jamling Tenzing for his support and cooperation in the construction of the Tenzing Hillary Park. Jamling Tenzing was presented with a letter of appreciation from the Tourism department on the occasion.
