Coming down heavily on the current political disposition in Darjeeling, the Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan secretary Mr. Bishnu Chettri has asked Bimal Gurung to drop Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.

Instead, suggested Mr. Bishnu Chettri, GJM should demand conducting of elections for the Zilla Parishad.

Explaining his outrage, Mr. Chettri said, "when GJM first came to power, we supported them whole-heartedly, and later they accepted GTA... now it turns out GTA is not even as powerful as a Zilla Parshad... this is because, while the Zilla Parishad is a constitutional body, GTA is not.... so there is no point in holding on to an unconstitutional administrative set-up..."

Mr. Chettri further explained, "See at the end of the day, GTA is nothing but a perpetuated 'development body'... it is not going to lead to Gorkhaland... so if GJM is interested in development only, then why settle for a body which is confined to the three Sub-Divisions alone? instead they should dissolve GTA and focus on Zilla Parishad elections, through which, not only will all the terai and plains ko areas come under it, but it will also put an end to repeated tries on the part of plains based parties to partition away Siliguri sub-division..."

Mr. Chettri added, "If Mr. Bimal Gurung desires he can be the Chairman of an entire district, instead of merely being the Chairman of an illegal and powerless administrative body... No matter what GJM says, the development in GTA region is entirely dependent on the whims and fancies of Bengal government... because of which GTA is forced to veg for everything, from power to funds from Bengal.... if Zilla Parishad is reconstituted, then we won't have to ask for anything... all the necessary funds, and entitlements will be automatically transferred by the virtue of it being a constitutional body."

He clarified that, "just as how we had supported GJM when it was 1st formed, we will support it again if it goes for Zilla Parishad and does away with this shame of a set-up."
