West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived today at Darjeeling to launch a clean and green programme in the hills tomorrow.This will be the first programme by the GTA (Gorkhaland Territorial Administration) and the district administration together in the hills .
The Clean and green programme includes 50,000 toilets to be built in the hill district.The project is an edition of Nirmal Bangla, akin to the Centre’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and in Darjeeling, it will be launched for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) areas, however, in the absence of GTA chief Bimal Gurung.
The district magistrate of Darjeeling and principal secretary of the GTA will jointly organise the launch programme at Chowrastha in Darjeeling on Tuesday. According to officials, there will be a colourful programme involving thousands of boys and girls from schools and colleges.
GTA chief Bimal Gurung’s deputy, Ramesh Alley, and other dignitaries including Arup Biswas, the minister for housing and youth affairs, will share the dais with the CM, sources said.
Apart from that, rainwater harvesting and spring sheds with financial support from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme will be implemented in the Hills.
