Photos of Rally de Orange, organised by the GTA
Car rally finishes at sitong : (From above) Cars participating in Rally de Orange, organised by the GTA in association with The Telegraph, head for Sitong in Kurseong subdivision, around 65km from Siliguri, on Wednesday. Twenty-two cars participated in the rally. While seven teams were from different parts of the country, others were from the Darjeeling hills.
The cars travelled a distance of 300km in two days from Darjeeling, via Murti in the Dooars, to Sitong. Subir Roy and Nirav Mehta, members of the team which came first in the rally, open a bottle of champagne to celebrate their victory, They won trophies and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.
Sk Ajgar Ali from Haldia and Md Mustafa from Tamil Nadu who finished second in the rally, pose with their trophies and cheque. They won a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

IBBF Eastern India Classic Bodybuilding Championship Gorkha Rangamanch Bhawan Darjeeling
IBBF Mr.EASTERN INDIA CLASSIC BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIP was held in Gorkha Rangamanch Bhawan Darjeeling. Mr Palden secured 1st position and Mr Sukra Mani and Mr Kushal of Darjeeling finished at the top 5.
Mr. Palzor Bhutia from Sikkim Bagged 1st Position in 60 Kgs "Eastern India Classic Body Building Championship 2014" held in Darjeeling.

Mirik Cultural and Tourism festival started - Photos
Mirik, October 11, 2014: The annual GTA programme, the Cultural and Tourism festival started in Mirik today. The Organizing Committee headed by Rajkumar Rai successfully initiated the festival under the Cultural & Information Dept. of GTA. Sabasadh Binay Tamang was the chief guest of the programme today.

Meanwhile speaking at the programme, chief guest Binay Tamang said, the word ‘Tea’ has been removed from the name of festival this year, as the name ‘Tea’ is already world famous, Darjeeling tea was served in last World Cup too. Therefore, we have emphasized more on our Culture, to make it internationally well known. He also emphasized on traditional attire and Nepali language.
Organising committee also felicitated the social workers and distinguished guests during the occasion. The programme was hosted by Ambika Thapa. The Festival will continue till October 20.

AMGSU 47th Foundation Day Celebration
AMGSU (All Manipur Gorkha Students Union) observed its 47th foundation day at Chingmeirong Imphal with zeal on 25th Sep 2014.
The function was staged with Addl Director, Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur Dr Sinapson Sario, President All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union Anil Kumar Dahal and Associate Professor Lamka Government College Dhiraj Thapa as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Giving the presidential speech, Anil Kumar Dahal said AMGSU was instituted on Sep 25, 1967 at Dewlahland, Imphal with the main objective to help the underpriviledge Gorkha students to stay a step ahead as well overall cultural and ethics development.
Throughout the years various extra cocurricular activities for the students and community has been held from time to time. During these new tenure we are now with the strength of 18 registered Units which also includes extension upto major cities like in NCR Delhi, Guwahati and Bangalore.
The function concludes with traditional ‘Khukri dance’ and many musical items and various cultural dance forms. With 47 years of dedication and services toward the people under the theme Education, Security and Unity, we would also like to thanked entire Gorkha communities of India who had supported us.

Gorkhas in Delhi Celebrate 70th Martyrs Day of the First Indian Gorkha Martyr Major Saheed Durga Malla's Death Anniversary by Donating Blood
Delhi residents including residents from Delhi NCR, social organizations like Kirat Khambu Rai, Delhi Gorkhas Forum, Gorkhas Students union, Gorkhas 'ARNOVA, Women Federation and representatives from political groups - GJMM and CPRM all joined hands to remember the Saheed Durga Malla the first Indian Gorkha Freedom Fighter who was kept in the prison at Red Fort, New Delhi as a prisoner of war. He was prosecuted by military court under section 41 of the Indian Army Law and section 121 of the Indian Penal Code. He was given death sentence by the Court Martial, the court of trial before which he was tried at Red Fort.

GNLF observed Accord Day -22 August ( Darjeeling & Kurseong )
Despite opposition from GJM, GNLF today observed the Accord Day in a grand fashion in Darjeeling and Kurseong.
Subash Ghisingh-led GNLF had settled for the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) on August 22, 1988 after the 26-month long agitation for a separate state that saw more than 1,200 people dead. On August 22, 1988, the Centre, state and the GNLF had signed a memorandum of settlement for the formation of the now repealed Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC).
