Gorkha Janmukti Vidyarthi Morcha Sikkim condemns Minor girl molestation in Darjeeling

GorkhaJanmukti Vidyarthi Morcha, Sikkim Unit Press Release, Sikkim Unit thoroughly condemns the recent happenings in the area of Gorkhaland. The incidents cannot be taken lightly as their magnitude increases day by day. Whether the Bengal Government has a hidden involvement on such activities carried out by the Government agencies is a question to be asked. There has been a regular coverage by various local news media sources informing of the atrocities and injustices suffered by women in Gorkha, particularly those performed by Government agencies such as Rapid Action Force or West Bengal Police. In this way, the latest case of molestation depicts the picture vividly, just as much as that occurred a couple of weeks ago when women were inhumanely beaten by the WBP outside the Sukna Police Station. Unfortunately such news covering lootings and burglary activities carried by CRPF jawans in the region are recurrent.

Kumar Nepal, the president of the organization, considers that the West Bengal government was rapidly trying to provoke people in order to turn a peaceful movement into a violent one, but unsuccessfully. As he sees it, Government therefore tried to create an emergency situation. Government sources are constantly trying to create agitation and legitimize the unnecessary presence of security forces in Gorkhland. The hidden agenda of the government aiming the Gorkha cleansing operation through pushing Pro-Gorkhaland people to struggle must not be overlooked.

Condemning the RAF cadre’s molestation case against a school girl in Jorbangla-Ghum, he says, is not of less importance than it was in the case of Malala Yusufzai, the Afghan girl victim of Taliban atrocities. Malala was, in fact, victim of an alleged terrorist act by the Taliban organization yet the abovementioned School girl from Jorbanglow-Ghum is rather a victim of the state security personnel who is supposed to ensure her access to justice, protecting her rights and safeguarding her dignity.

Pallav Ram, General Secretary, states that the people are in a state of confusion, not feeling safe, provided that the army meant to protect them keeps violating their most fundamental and sacred rights. The Government purports to keep CRPF and RAF army personnel in the hills however the Gorkhaland resistance has always been of a both peaceful and legal nature.
Tenzing Khungphel, Chief Patron adds that Government is spending public treasury in deploying security forces in the Gorkhaland, which is absolutely not required in the largest democracy in the World, where people do have the right to engage in peaceful resistance to pursue their constitutional demands. Moreover, in the present economic scenario, misusing the public treasury through such security machineries in the name of law and order does not fit in a democratic state, he said.
