GTA intensify development works in Mirik region

Gorkha Territorial Administration member Arun Ghising today inaugurated construction work of a private toilet belonging to Chandulal Rai of Saday Gaon of Duptin Gram Panchayat under the MGNREGA. The construction was earlier being done under the Nirmal scheme of the Union Government. The inaugural function was attended by Joint BDO LT Bhutia, District Sanitation Cell Coordinator Barun Gurung and Friends of Trees Forum founder Karma Sherpa.

Barun Gurung said the construction of the toilet has been converted into the MGNREGA where man-day wages will be paid as per the MGNREGA and the materials required for construction provided by NGO Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA). Bhutia said every household will be allotted a man-day wage of Rs 2,700 for the construction of such toilets through the MGNREGA and the concerned NGO working in the area will supply and execute the construction. Ghising also flagged-off construction work of a road at Tshering Gaon later in the day where he said the roads constructed under the PMGSY will be linked with roads leading to villages.

Mirik Municipality chairperson Mala Subba today laid the foundation stone for a community hall at Rasdal Gaon in Ward No. 7. The event was attended by Mirik Municipality vice-president MK Pakhrin, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha members Suman Rai, Suman Ghising and several others. Subba said the construction of community halls, roads, pony roads, drains and other infrastructure has been started in all wards of the municipality. She added ward residents will greatly benefit with the availability of the community hall. Subba appealed to the people to protect public property as she expressed her gratitude to Rasdal Gaon resident NB Rai for donating his land for the community hall.
