Inter-Constituency Rural Football Tournament 2014 quarterfinal matches

Two quarterfinal matches were played today at the ongoing inter-constituency rural sports festival organised by the Maghey Sankranti Festival Committee 2014 that kicked-off from January 2 here at Jorethang.

The first match was played between Yaksom Tashiding and Yangthang where the former won 5-4 in a tiebreaker. The second and very interesting contest took place between Daramdin and Gyalshing where the former dominated, with the match-winning goal coming from Sanjay Subba in the 47th minute.

Kamal Chettri, Sports Joint Director (S/W) cum Maghey Mela general secretary, informed Tuesday will witness a girls’ football exhibition match between Nepal XI and Sikkim XI and chief minister Pawan Chamling will be present as the chief guest.

Further, the first female Indian Idol, Saurabi, will also perform at a cultural programme on January 16. Chettri also informed that the chief minister will formally inaugurate the Maghey Sankranti Mela on January 14 flag-off the football final on January 16.

The semifinal matches will be played on January 15 comprising games between Salghari Zoom and Yangthang and Melli and Daramdin.
