The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, which is threatening to play the spoilsport in the Trinamool Congress’s plans to get a seat in Darjeeling, has said that it’s support will be the deciding factor not only in Darjeeling but also in neighbouring Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri.
This was stated by GJM president Bimal Gurung in a post on his page on a social networking site.
Mr. Gurung said on Saturday that he and the central committee members of the GJM were leaving for Delhi to hold talks with all national leaders and parties about the Lok Sabha election.
This assumes significance as it comes two days after he expressed his displeasure at Trinamool’s decision to field the former captain of the Indian football team, Baichung Bhutia, from the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency.
On Friday, GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said that after the decision of the ruling party in the State there was no scope of the GJM entering into an alliance with it for the Lok Sabha election.
He also said that Trinamool was not sincere in improving its ties with the GJM as it had not even bothered to take his party into confidence before taking the decision of fielding Mr. Bhutia from Darjeeling.
