Mentally tortured by her former boyfriend, who threatened to make public their personal videos, Rita acted strong and lodged an FIR with the police, while the latter arrested the accused and is doing the needful. Rita met Nikhil Zimba on Facebook and after several rendezvous, their friendship developed into a love affair.

However, Rita's trust soon turned into a nightmare when she found that Zimba was not the kind of guy she wanted in her boyfriend.

"The boy recorded their personal videos shot somewhere in a jungle. While police are still investigating what all transpired during their courtship, but according to the FIR lodged by the girl, the boy blackmailed her. He threatened to make the videos public if she failed to give him Rs 30,000," assistant public prosecutor Pankaj Prasad said today.

Zimba is in his early twenties and is a resident of Bhutia Busty in Darjeeling, while Rita is a couple of years older to him and they had met in the social networking site sometime in December last year.

According to the police, Rita and her relative lodged the FIR at the Darjeeling police station on 4 May. Zimba was today produced in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court here, which sent him in 14 days’ judicial remand.

"The accused sent a video to the girl through his mobile phone and threatened to forward the same to others. The police have seized the mobile phone and is investigating if the video has been sent to others," Mr Prasad said.

Zimba has been booked under sections 493 (Cohabitation caused by a man deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage), 376 (Punishment for rape), 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 77A (Power of company to purchase its own securities) and section 20 in the Indian Telegraph Act along with sections under cybercrime, the APP said.
