The news about fraud in private investment firm Basil International has led to wide spread panic among its customers in Kalimpong. There are thousands of Basil International customers in the town and have invested crores of rupees. According to company agents in Kalimpong, Besil management has been delaying payments since the last one year and with the news of the company involved in fraudulent activities, the apprehensions among the investors have increased. Incidentally, the company’s office in Kalimpong has also been without any staff since the past few months, while the branch manager has also been absconding for quite a long time.
Following the latest developments, a few of the investors have also registered an FIR against Basil International at Kalimpong Police Station.
Local investor, Ranjit Prashad said he had invested Rs.50,000 in the company, expecting a fair return. However, he has not received the amount promised by the company despite the investment reaching its maturity period a few months back. There are several other investors like Prashad from Kalimpong who have invested in Basil.
Besil International agent and Baghdhara resident, Priyanka Jain, said her clients have invested a total of Rs50 lakh, but with the company unable to repay the money, her fears have increased. She said she has been visiting the office for past few months without any results. “If the company gets closed, I do not have any other option but to commit suicide,” she said.
Today, investors and agents of Basil International thronged the company’s office in town, trying to get information about the company. They were understandably agitated and questioned on what they would do if their hard earned money goes down the drain due to the company. Many of them threatened to sue the company and drag them to court if their money was not returned.
