Jorethang - forged cheques worth Rs17,56,000 encashed from SBI

The Jorethang branch of the State Bank of India has lodged an FIR claiming forged cheques have been encashed. The Jorethang police responded promptly and were successful in nabbing at least four of the masterminds from Melli check post. They are Guddu Ansari, Krishna Kr. Pandey, Bijendra Singh and Aktar Aalam.

Ansari lives in Jorethang, but he is originally from Chappra Villa Karimchak in Bihar. He runs an electronics business. The remaining accused all are from Lucknow.

SBI sources said Ansari encashed Rs17,56,000 via cheque from the bank’s Jorethang branch as the signature of the account holder appeared genuine. The real account holder was Shiva Shankar Tiwari from Uttar Pradesh. He found out someone had swindled him when he checked his account. He lodged a formal complaint with the Jorethang police who acted immediately.

Police sources said two more persons from the group, Abhey Singh and Ravi Singh have managed to escape along with Rs8 lakh in cash. The fraudsters were using a Tata Indica car bearing registration number UP- 78CVC/ 9519.

A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered and an investigation has started.
