Seat belts made mandatory in Kalimpong

In the wake of more than a dozen accidents along NH-31A in the past few months, the Kalimpong police have directed drivers in town to use seat belts, as a mandatory safety measure. Notably, more around 24 accidents have been reported along the NH-31A within Kalimpong sub-division in the last seven months.

Since most of the accidents involved vehicles from Sikkim, the Rangpo (WB) and Riyang check post police personnel have started keeping a close eye on vehicles plying between Sikkim and Siliguri. The checkings have been intensified following the directives from Darjeeling Police. The drivers who do not follow the new rule will have to face severe consequences, Kalimpong police sources informed.
