Blaming the Bengal government for inaction, the rally participants protested against the fact that in the recent past numerous incidents of atrocities and crimes against Bhutia women have been reported, yet no action has been taken by the government to address this issue.

Highlighting the cases of atrocities, those rallying demanded justice for:

1. Yankila Bhutia - who was forced to commit suicide in Pedong.
2. A minor rape victim from Payiun
3. Pasa Lahmu Bhutia - who was murdered in Dungri and
4. Nima Lahmu Bhutia - who was murdered by her husband in Chennai

Despite the fact that cases have been filed against the perpetrators, none of them have been sentenced. In fact the rape perpetrator has been absconding and the police have been unable to trace him so far.

The protestors demanded that the government provide justice to the victims as early as possible, and ensure security of the Bhutia women across the Darjeeling hills.

Despite the fact that the rally was taken out specifically demanding the protection of Bhutia women, a large number of non-Bhutias community members also participated in the protest as a mark of solidarity with the victims.
