Audio file where GJM Harka Bahadur Chettri talks of ‘corruption’ goes viral
While campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections is on in full swing and as different political parties are doing their best to woo voters, some people are engaged in a smear campaign in a bid to outdo their opponent party leaders, but of course, with a touch of satire.

In the 2-minute-24-second-long audio clip, a conversation takes place between what the clip says a ‘reporter’ and ‘Mr Chettri.’ The man presumed to be Mr Chhetri makes comments on deep-rooted corruption among the GJMM leadership.

In the funny mimicry, the man mimicking Mr Chhetri says he and the ‘other GJMM leaders’ have cheated the public in the name of Gorkhaland. The voice also appeals for votes once again so that they could ‘deceive’ the people again.

“If you give us votes, you will once again be duped. We have bought huge swathes of land as large as the Mela Ground and amassed property,” the voice says.
The fake reporter asks what kind of a leader GJMM chief Bimal Gurung is, and the voice answers that he is a “foolish leader who wears gold rings in all his five fingers.” The entire audio file is filled with the funny mimicry of Mr Chettri.

Asked to comment on the audio clip, Mr Chettri said nothing can be done against people who are fake and who have no identity of their own.

“They have done this as they have nothing else to do in life, or have failed politically. These kind of people can stoop to the lowest level when it comes to character assassination of someone. The fake audio clip has made by these unidentified persons to defame me and my party,” he said.

He says, There a seven assembly constituencies in Darjeeling and if we see the demography of these constituencies then it is like a Mini Bharat (mini-india). Darjeeling statehood demand Gorkhaland by no means is an unconstitutional demand. When GJM (Gorkha Janmukti Morcha) declared its support to BJP Mamata Government (TMC) issued 600 warrants in a single day, however when they signed GTA and when their relatons were in good terms there was no such warrants."Why these warrants now?" Such an act is not tolerable and Election Commission  should look after this - said S. S Ahluwalia BJP candidate from Darjeeling constituency for Lok Sabha. He added Mamata Banerjee has fought tyranny of the communist party in the past  in West Bengal and presently she has been trying to imply same tyranny here in Darjeeling.

Biteka Pal Trailer and Movie Review

6:38 PM
Nepali movie ‘Biteka Pal’ was released on January 10, 2014. The recommendations of the viewers during the premier held on December 28, were also told to be incorporated in the final release. The movie produced by Rajesh Ghatani and Krish Rijal is written and directed by Suraj Subba ‘Nalbo’. The movie features Keki Adhikari, Abinash Gurung and Baboo Bogati in lead roles. The director had told that the movie is based on a true story of a woman from Jhapa.

Biteka Pal Trailer and Movie Review

Story

The movie is made on the triangular love story of three characters Numa (Keki Adhikari), Abhi (Abinash Gurung) and Rayan (Baboo Bogati). All three characters are not happy with each other and the movie is the clash between these three characters.

The characters in the movie express their feelings in words and tears but, the presentation doesn’t seem natural. The tension in relationship between the character is documented with words, tears and sad music but, the viewers fail to feel it.

Strength and Weakness

The characters played by these actors haven’t been well presented. Abhi is told to be a well known artist in Darjeeling, but you don’t get a feeling of him being that popular. The twists and turns of the story don’t have enough background to make them believable.

The cinematography is simple, it doesn’t have much artistic touch. Although the movie was shot mostly in Darjeeling, there isn’t much scenes to show the life in Darjeeling. The script of the movie could also have been much better.

Star Cast

Baboo Bogati has done a very good job and has given justice to his role. Keki Adhikari, the central character of the movie, has also done a good acting but, sometimes it seems like an over-acting. The character played by Keki is sad and cries a lot. But, the crying fails to touch the heart of the viewers. Keki has worked hard to justify her role.

The debut actor, Abinash Gurung, has failed to show his acting talent. Abinash’s acting shows a lot of scope of improvement. In serious scenes, he has failed to express the seriousness.

‘Biteka Pal’ is the sixth movie of Suraj Subba ‘Nalbo’  as a director. In addition to that he has written the script of twice the number of movies he has directed. Although Nalbo has presented a good character, the presentation of the social and psychological aspect has failed. In terms of script writing, Nalbo has failed to bind the character in a solid story line.

Conclusion

The director and the artists have tried their best to make it a good movie. But, the movie could have been made much better by improving the presentation and characterization. It is a good story but, the presentation has ruined the story.

The story seems to be an original one and if you like love stories and can overlook the shortcomings, you might enjoy the movie.

Oldest Darjeeling himalayan railway video

12:13 AM
This is one of the earliest or the oldest video of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) or popularly known as Darjeeling Toy Train in the internet one can find. In the video we can see the world famous Darjeeling Toy train whistling past its way through scenic beauty of the hill.

The idea of a railway link between Siliguri and Darjeeling was first mooted in the year 1870 by Franklin Prestage, who at that time was the Sole agent of the Eastern Bengal Railway Co. He proposed to build the rail line along the old Hill Cart Road being used by the Tonga Service and which was later destroyed by landslides. He placed a detailed scheme for laying the Railway Line in the year 1878 before then Lt. Governor Sir. Ashley Eden. The Lt. Governor appointed a high power committee to study the proposal who reported the feasibility and advantages of the proposed railway.

In the year 1879, the proposed scheme by Franklin Prestage was accepted and construction work started on a war footing. By March 1880, a line was opened up to Tindharay and by the end of the year up to Kurseong. In July 1881, the DHR first rolled into Darjeeling town. On September 15, 1881, the original name given to the railway - Darjeeling Steam Tramway Co - was changed to a more dignified appellation - The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. In the same year, M/s Gillanders Aubuthnot & Co was appointed as the first booking and handling agents of the DHR.

Synopsis: A project which began as a search for an Indian-Nepali identity, "Machis Ko Sinka (Matchstick)" evolved into an attempt to understand the movement for Gorkhaland as it was then in 2008 in Darjeeling. The film looks at a specific moment in the recent history of the movement when arguments for and against the use of violence were raging amongst the restless youth, touching thereby the spectre of violence and hatred that haunted the hills in the late 1980s.

When asked her how she conceived the film. Radha says, “The project began with a search for the Indian-Nepali identity and to represent it for mainland Indians who are complacently ignorant about the region, its politics and economics. It evolved in trying to understand the Gorkhaland Movement in Darjeeling.” Machis ko Sinka was made as part of Radha’s student diploma project in 2008, while she was at the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore. Radha says, “Kalimpong is a town in the Himalayas which in the past century has been the scene of many migrations, from Tibet in the north, from Nepal in the west, from Bhutan in the east and from India and Bangladesh in the south. I’m a product of two such migrations: my great grandparents themselves came from Uttar Pradesh and from Okhaldhunga and Ilam in Eastern Nepal. The town itself could be described as a great crossroads where trade with Tibet and Nepal flourished and it also functioned as the starting point of many expeditions to Central Asia.”

Radha continues to make films in and around the region. She says, “I’m currently working on a film that tells the story of fifty-year old Land Rover cars operating on a route that trails the remote frontiers of India and Nepal. Another project in the pipeline is based on the water crisis in the hills. It’s a recurring theme in a lot of projects that I’ve worked on.”

Gujarati film The Good Road is India’s Oscar entry

8:21 AM
Surprising and shocking many in Bollywood, The National Film Development Corporation of India’s (NFDC) Gujarati production The Good Road has been selected as India’s entry to the Oscars this year despite a lot of buzz about debutant director Ritesh Batra’s film Lunchbox being the

The directorial debut of Gyan Correa, The Good Road won the national award for best Gujarati film, which stars Ajay Gehi, Keval Katrodia and Sonali Kulkarni.

The overjoyed director had no idea that his film was in the running for the Oscars and was surprised to know it had been selected as India’s entry this year.
“I can’t believe it. It is a great feeling and I am recovering my breath and understanding the implications. I hope we win,” said Correa

The dark and gritty film revolves around three people discovering themselves while on a road trip through Kutch.

Even the film’s star Ajay Gehi was caught unawares. “I’m surprised as I didn’t know. You (HT) are the first one to tell me. It wasn’t a big budget commercial film but the team was very driven. I connected with the script.”

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi tweeted his congratulations to the cast and crew, “Delighted to know that Gujarati film ‘The Good Road’ has been chosen to represent India at Oscars. My best wishes.”

While those involved with the film were overjoyed, others in the film fraternity were shocked and some were disappointed.
Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays Aslam Shaikh in the Lunchbox, was thunderstruck: “I was 100 per cent sure that The Lunchbox is going for Oscars. It’s a shock that it didn’t. I have never heard of The Good Road.”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was also flummoxed by the choice and felt the federation needs a policy regarding Oscar entries. “Feeling very very disappointed, can’t comment on the film I have not seen, but it better make it to final five,” he tweeted.

“We should make a clean policy (for film selection), you want to send the best film, then send the national award winner,” he added.
Even Karan Johar was taken aback: “Really shocked and disappointed.. #LUNCHBOX had every factor working in its favour... we may have just lost our golden chance.. SAD!!!.” he said in his tweet.

Brushing off these reactions Correa says, “They are entitled to their opinion, what can I say?”

But not all reactions were negative, actor- filmmaker Arbaaz Khan supported the decision, “Any film that gets recognised at the Oscar is a proud moment for the filmmakers and the country that it comes from. It is a very proud moment.”

Wrecking ball video watched 19 million times within 24 hours - Miley Cyrus

9:45 PM
With more than 19 million views within 24 hours since it premiered, Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" video has succeeded not only in wrestling the Vevo record from One Direction's "Best Song Ever" but has also managed to overshadow the 20-year-old pop rock singer's raunchy performance at the VMAs. That is because now all the attention is on the nudity and other sexual innuendos in her Terry Richardson-directed music video.

Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" video
Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" video

But Cyrus says the controversial clip is much more than its shocking elements, and hopefully "people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me you can tell that I actually look more broken then even the song sounds." She also wants the video to be appreciated more for the song which she says, "Everyone is going to relate to, everyone has felt that feeling at one point."

The "We Can't Stop" singer also says she had a harder time doing the video than recording the song because she wanted to show the vulnerability, and if only its viewers can "go into their imagination a little bit" to "see kind of what the video really means." In the actual clip, Cyrus left very little to the imagination when she sang from the top of a wrecking ball wearing nothing but a pair of Doc Martens.

Despite all the opposition and criticism that have come and will still come her way over "Wrecking Ball", Cyrus apparently has the understanding and support of her father, country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus. "It wouldn't have mattered if Miley would have worn jeans and a flannel shirt ... a Tux ... or a nun's habit. The song's a smash ... and her performance vocally on the tune reflects her roots and sheer God given talent," he said.
