18 kilometers away from the town of Kalimpong, Harsha Kumai, 88, an inhabitant of East Paiyu which falls under Paiyu G.P, was murdered by his own nephew Bipal Kumai 35, with an axe last night.
Bipal is a son of Harsha’s younger brother who had stayed with him for the last 25 years. According to the neighbors Bipal was always loved and pampered by his old uncle.
“It is shocking that Bipal killed his uncle who treated him like his own son” said a lady who accompanied the body to the dead persons house.
A neighbor who came to use Hasha’s toilet in the morning found the house hostile and called his name aloud, when no one responded she peeped inside to find blood stains and narrated the scenario to the neighbors.
“Despite the goodness in the boy, he had a habit of drinking, he was a chronic alcoholic” said Dashrat Kumai, a relative.
After the police reached the spot they found Bipal sleeping with the corpse of his uncle whom he had killed. When interrogated he spoke nothing but stood in guilt.
Bipal and Harsha shared the house since a long time. And killing such an old man was the inquisition of the public. However the accused was produced in the court and is booked under Section 302 under the Indian Penal Code, for his crime.
